Preparing this beverage is very simple and i’m sure you’ll thoroughly enjoy it serving your guest during the holiday season, especially Christmas.
Depending on the country of origin, mulled wine may go by different names such as Glogg (Sweden), Vin Chaud (France), or Glühwein (Germany).
- Common Spices– Cinnamon, Cloves, Nutmeg, Star anise, and all spice – 2 tbsp
- Red wine– 750 ml (you can also use, Gin, Vodka or any other clear liquor)
- Sugar – 1/2 cup
- Fruits – a slice of orange (you can also add other fruits of your choice like fresh apple, ginger, figs or even raisins)
Pour a bottle of simple red wine in a cooking pot, add the spices, sugar and orange.
Simmer for 15 minutes (do not boil)
The simmering will allow the flavors to infuse. After this you can strain the mulled wine and serve it HOT! or can refrigerate to allow further infusion of flavors.
Mulled wine is the most loved convention during the winter months (especially around Christmas) because of it’s warming qualities.
Drinking warm liquids help the body to stay warm inside out and alcohol acts as a vasolidator, allowing warm blood to flow more freely.
The option of warm flavors for eg. Cinnamon and clove, add to the glow and comfort of this drink.
I’ve enjoyed this spiced drink with my friends, hope you enjoy it too !!!
